Dallas Cowboys 2013 Draft Analysis - Part 2

photo: nfl.com
It’s day three and the last day of the draft.  The Cowboys are positioning themselves to find the best value in the late rounds.  Their recent drafts of late rounds have not been too successful.

Here is my positive opinion on their final three picks of rounds 4, 5, and 6:

Round (overall)
Name
School
Position
Height
Weight
4 (114)
B.W. Webb
William & Mary
Cornerback
5’10”
184 pounds
5 (151)
Joseph Randle
Oklahoma St.
Running Back
6’0”
204 pounds
6 (185)
DeVonte Holloman
South Carolina
Linebacker
6’1”
243 pounds

Round 4 – pick 17 (114th overall)

The B.W. Webb experiment is here for Cornerback (CB).  Can B.W. bring his William & Mary experience in and provide much needed help in nickel and dime situations…the Cowboys hope so.  With the departure of CB, Mike Jenkins to the Oakland Raiders, B.W. will try to make an impact.

B.W. will not be concerned with contract situations right now, so he can solely focus on being an NFL CB.  The future could be bright and hopefully B.W. will fit right into the Tampa 2 defense of Monte Kiffin.  SB Nation (Sports Blog Nation) says B.W. accumulated 11 interceptions in his college career.  He is another guy the Boys need to make plays on defense.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the Boys did not exactly light up the turnover ratio on defense the past two years?

Round 5 – pick 18 (151st overall)

According to the Bleacher Report.com, Running Back (RB) Joseph Randle is similar to RB, Ryan Mathews of the San Diego Chargers.  Randle is very good on third down, but his 4.63 speed in the 40 may not create any buzz for fans.  You would think he runs a little faster if you have seen his game tape.

Coming out of Oklahoma State one can only hope Randle has a little bit of Barry Sanders in him.  He does not have to be Barry Sanders, but hopefully he can provide the Cowboys with some durability Sanders had over his career.  According to ESPN.com, Randle stated, “being versatile” was the best part of his game.  With the projected starter DeMarco Murray getting injured over the last two seasons, Randle may be a great relief player and possibly a starter.

Below is a three minute video on some of Randle’s 2012 highlights courtesy of YouTube:

Round 6 – pick 17 (185th overall)

The pick of DeVonte Holloman is about depth.  The Cowboys rotated so many inside linebackers last year it was crazy.  With injuries last year to the leader Sean Lee and the rising star Bruce Carter, Holloman should provide some insurance at linebacker in the new 4-3 scheme.

Holloman also proves to be a versatile player since he played most of his games at South Caroline at the safety position.  During the 2012 season, Holloman finished fourth on the team with 57 tackles and 3 interceptions, according to Yahoo Sports.com.

This is the end of the Cowboys 2013 draft.  Fans hope these picks pan out to be of some value for the 2013 season and years to come.
