People may not be paying attention, but the Seattle Seahawks and their newly designed logo by NIKE, could be the most dangerous team in the post season (playoffs).

Let’s take a look at a snapshot of the Seattle’s schedule courtesy of ESPN.com

Making Sense of NY Jets QB Options for 2013?

Most of the NFL sports world, especially NY Jets fans, could never quite understand why the Jets traded for QB Tim Tebow before the 2012 season.  Nothing against Tebow as a person, but his completion percentage as an NFL QB is not good.  He completed less than 50% of his passes in the 2 years at Denver, according to Pro Football Reference.com.

Jets QB - Mark Sanchez
As for QB Mark Sanchez, it looks like the honeymoon is over in NY, according to the New York Daily News.  Most people say marriages only last 2 to 2 ½ years.  Well, Sanchez lasted a little longer than that.  According to Pro Football Reference.com, Sanchez had a phenomenal marriage with the Jets for 4 years when he began his career in 2009.  Sanchez and the Jets defense went to the AFC championship 2 years in a row from 2009 to 2010.  The last 2 years of the relationship were the toughest for the franchise, the media and the fans.  With the addition of Tebow, the relationship only became rockier.

I just wonder why the Jets signed Tebow and gave Sanchez a 3-year extension?  This just doesn’t make sense at all?

Sports Pay Tribute to Newtown, Connecticut

On Friday, December 14, 2012, a lone 20-year old gunman walked into the Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut and killed 26 people before turning the gun on himself, according to CNN.com.  Of the 26 murdered, 6 were adults and 20 were students between the ages of 6 and 7 years of age.

On December 16 and 17, 2012, the NFL presented moments of silence for the helpless angels of Newtown.  Society has grown a deaf ear to violence because these tragedies are happening too often across America.  Every evening when you turn on the news the opening reports are some form of violence.  As good heart gestures, below are a few images of sports figures who offered their own tribute to Newtown:

  • St. Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings circle in prayer before the game.

  • Rams Coach Jeff Fisher & Vikings Coach Leslie Frazier

Each NFL Playoff Year Is Different

The same question always gets asked around playoff time in the NFL….which 12 teams will make it to the playoffs?

Many NFL analysts continue to state the obvious teams who were in the playoffs the previous year.  This is interesting to me because different teams make the playoffs each year with the exception of the New England Patriots.

If I were making a judgment on playoff teams, I would go with the hottest teams going into the playoffs.  Last year’s record or playoff success or non-success has nothing to do with the current time frame.

If a team was bad last year at this time, but good this year are they out of the playoffs because of what happened last year?

“Please Don’t Do That!”

Before we get started I would just like to say, everyone makes mistakes.  As humans we have all made mistakes in the past and we hope we learn and grow for the future.  With that being written, I believe the NFL Player's Association needs to add “Etiquette in the NFL” under their (1) Policies and (2) Personal Conduct Policy portion for rules to follow. The “Etiquette in the NFL” policy would be defined as “Please don’t do that!”

Jenn Sterger
Here are two (2) things that changed the lives of NFL staff members and players in a situation of “Please don’t do that!”

1)    Never send lewd or obscene emails or text message to coworkers or colleagues.  In October of 2010, the media scolded QB, Brett Favre for allegedly sending sexually explicit photos of himself to a female journalist named Jenn Sterger in 2008 while he played with the New York Jets, according to the Huffington Post.com.  Favre was also reported as sending more obscene photos to several other women during the same time period.

How NFL Dreams Can Turn Into Nightmares

Almost every little kid who played or currently plays football had or has the dream of one day playing in the NFL.  Imagine working hard in high school, becoming a popular player in college and somehow being one of the lucky few to be drafted into the NFL.  Even if you were not drafted but selected as an NFL walk on would be a dream of dreams.

Now imagine all of your hard work, sweat and tears washed away with one decision to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and drive after a night of drinking alcohol….

NFL Defensive P.O.Y.?

Who will be the NFL’s defensive player of the year?

#99 - J.J. Watt
If I were a gambling man, I would bet $10 dollars that defensive end JJ Watt would be the defensive player of the year (D-POY).  Now, most of you would probably say I don’t believe in JJ Watt that much to only place a $10 wager.  The reason I say I would only place a small wager is because I am not a betting man.  That is specifically why I used the conjunction “If”.

Since I am not a gambling man, I would still go out on a limb to state JJ Watt would be the 2012-2013 NFL D-POY.  For those of you who may not know, Watt was

The Sense and Sadness of the NFL

#59 - Javon Belcher

On Saturday, December 1, 2012, linebacker Javon Belcher of the Kansas City Chiefs took the life of his 22-year-old girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, according to CBS News.com.  Belcher committed this unthinkable act in his home in the presence of his own mother, according to AOL Sporting News.com.  Additionally, Belcher and Perkins’ 3-month-old daughter, baby Zoe was in the next room when the violent act took place.
Kasandra Perkins

After taking the life of his girlfriend, Belcher drove 5 miles to his workplace (Kansas City Chief’s-Arrowhead Stadium) and thanked the Chief’s organization from the front office down to the coaches.   Once thanking the Chiefs, Belcher took his own life, committing suicide.  Unbelievable!  This entire act was considered a murder-suicide, according to the Boston Herald.com.

The question I have to try and make any sense of is what was Belcher mentally going through to commit this violent act?

Steel Getting It Done

From the top of the organization, to the head coach, down to the players, the Steelers know how to get the job done.  Getting it done in the NFL means consistently making the correct decisions in an organization.

Coach - Mike Tomlin
No matter what anyone says, the Pittsburgh Steelers know how to get the job done.  Right now, the Steelers are doing what it takes to win football games.  The Steelers have lost to teams like the Cleveland Browns.  Oh boy…Cleveland?  But, the Steelers are coached so well they know how to hide their flaws.

Coach Mike Tomlin was hired in 2007 as only the 3rd head coach for the Steelers in over the last 40 years.  In 5 years, Tomlin has appeared in 2 Super Bowls winning 1.  Tomlin has only missed the playoffs 1 year in his 5 years of coaching folks.  1 year.  Tomlin is doing something right.

Currently, the Steelers are doing everything necessary
