Who
will be the NFL’s defensive player of the year?
#99 - J.J. Watt |
If
I were a gambling man, I would bet $10 dollars that defensive end JJ Watt would
be the defensive player of the year (D-POY).
Now, most of you would probably say I don’t believe in JJ Watt that much
to only place a $10 wager. The reason I
say I would only place a small wager is because I am not a betting man. That is specifically why I used the
conjunction “If”.
Since
I am not a gambling man, I would still go out on a limb to state JJ Watt would
be the 2012-2013 NFL D-POY. For those of
you who may not know, Watt was
born in Pewaukee, Wisconsin in 1989. According to City Data.com, the city of
Pewaukee has just over 13 thousand people.
There were just enough citizens for JJ to grow up around, learn from,
and craft his skills into the manchild he is today. Watt - Central Michigan |
Watt
was a walk on at the university of Wisconsin. He transferred from Central Michigan University where he was a tight end, according to Yahoo Sports.com. After making the team, Watt was undoubtedly a
force to reckon with. Listed between
6’5” and 6’6” 292 to 295 pounds, Watt played two years at Wisconsin and compiled
11.5 sacks as a Badger.
As
a Houston Texan, Watt has racked up 22 sacks as a pro in two years. For the 2012 season, Watt currently has 16.5 sacks through 12 games. He is a serious
problem for all offensive tackles and a menace to all opposing QB’s.
Take
a look at Watt’s ball skills in this 2011-2012 Wildcard playoff game vs. the
Cincinnati Bengals. This play gives you
a sense of Watt’s athletic ability along with his Central Michigan playing days
at tight end:
If
there is any kid thinking about playing the game of football, just pay close
attention to the work ethic, hustle, and flow of JJ Watt. For anyone who has not seen Watt, please tune
in and watch number 99 of the Texans.
Watt personifies the heart and soul of a true professional athlete.
Watt
is one of the major reasons this Texans team currently has 11 wins with only 1
loss. His 16.5 sacks this season and his
team’s 11-1 record is one of the major reasons I am picking JJ Watt to win this
year's defensive player award.
