NFC East Summary

To make sense of the NFC East playoff possibilities, look at the remaining schedules for the NFC East.  Pay close attention to (1) the overall record total and (2) the division record column.

The current standings can be found below:

NY Giants

Positives:
This team may be driven by the QB play of Eli Manning, but the team is run by engine of the defensive front four by the names of Tuck, JPP, Osi and Chris Canty.  Most people seem to forget about the defensive tackle from the University of Virginia, but Canty clogs the middle playing the run and the pass.  Canty is a BEAST!

Negatives
The Giants secondary and kick/punt return games are the only question marks on this team.  The secondary has been masked by the great defensive front play by the front 4 and linebacker Chase Blackburn.  If teams get the front 4 blocked, passing teams will have a field day on the Giants.  Special teams units always need to give the offense shorter fields.  So far, the G-men have not been able to get much out of the kick/punt return teams to help Eli.

Summary
The Giants can make another serious run deep into the playoffs, if Eli plays halfway decent.  Not great, but halfway decent.  Basically, the Super Bowl rests in the hands of Eli and the Front 4.

Washington Redskins

Positives:
RG3, RG3, RG3, and the run game….enough said.  Whether you believe it or not, the Skins lead the league in rushing at 163 yards per game. http://www.nfl.com/stats/team.  Head coach Mike Shanahan finds running talent no matter where he is.   No matter who runs the ball, a Shanahan team runs well.

Negatives
Everything else not named RG3 and the running back.  Does anyone know the running back’s name?  It’s #46, Alfred Morris.  Yes, Alfred Morris.

Summary
One thing I can honestly say is the Skins have never lost heart.  No matter how many points the Skins are losing by they always play hard.  That is hard to get in an NFL locker room.  Attribute that to players like veteran linebacker London Fletcher and rookie QB RG3.
Robert Griffin III is possibly the most valuable player on his team next to Peyton Manning in my opinion.

Before RG came to DC, Rex Grossman was leading the ship….  Everyone can pick up your lips, because that is all I will say about that.

This team’s whole personality is based on RG3.  The Skin’s no name players are making plays because of him.  His is the epitome of a leader and an MVP.

Dallas Cowboys

Positives:
Tony Romo will give you 1-2 turnovers that you can live with, but he continues to run for his life as a QB.  As he is running for his life, he continues to put up big numbers with no help from the offensive line or coaching staff.  Imagine if Romo had an offensive line?  Coach, can you help him with that?

Dez Bryant continues his upward trend of positive WR play.  Yes, he fumbles every once every other game, but he has provided far more upside lately than he has a downside.

Negatives:
The coaching on offense and defense.

Constant penalties.

The lack of desire to play every play at their best, due to the entitlement of wearing a star on your helmet and playing in the most primetime games every year.  Maybe Jimmy Johnson was right when he said this Cowboys organization is run like a country club, according to ESPN.com.

Summary:
Right now, the Cowboys are so undisciplined it is ridiculous.  I have been so up and down with the decision on head coach Jason Garrett that things must change with this team or things must change with the coach.  I was against the hiring of Garrett due to elementary play calling, but his elementary calls rank in the top ten the last 4 years.

The players are in place, but the coaching is not.  Routine plays seem to be very difficult for this team.  Coaching, coaching, and coaching.  Players cannot make simple plays whether they are penalties at the wrong time, the center snapping the ball over Romo’s head, turnovers, etc. this team needs a drastic change.

Week after week, the Cowboys have penalty, after penalty, after penalty.  A definition of insanity is to do the SAME thing over and over and expect a DIFFERENT result.

A few years ago, Garrett began firing all of the under-performing high paid contracts like RB, Marion Barber, WR, Roy Williams, Guard, Leonard Davis and others.  Then I said, “Oh, Garrett means business”.  Then, I put my energy behind him and I endorsed Garrett.

Since I went to the polls and voted for Garrett, he has not lived up to his campaign speech.  Garrett may need to be impeached, if the Cowboys do not make the 2012-2013 playoffs.

Philadelphia Eagles

Positives
The future looks bright with the talent of the Eagles running game.  Between, the starting running back LeSean “Shady” McCoy and #34 Bryce Brown out of Kansas State, Philly is set at tailback.  Shady is one of the fastest backs in the league with his cat like instincts on the field.  His quickness cannot be matched ny any back in the league right now.  No one.

Adrian Peterson for the Minnesota Vikings is a power back who will run you over like the old Oiler great Earl Campbell.   Chris Johnson with the Tennessee Titans can run like a cheetah, but his quickness is not like McCoy.  Once Johnson hits the open field he can out run McCoy, but the initial burst goes to McCoy.

The wide receivers corp is established also, but the QB must be able to distribute the ball to them.

Negatives
Wow.  There are so many things that crumbled on this team due to the status of Head Coach Andy Reid.  All year long Andy Reid could hear the footsteps of (1) should he be fired? (2) Andy has been in Philly too long (3) Andy is too loyal to certain players.  Philly fans have a lot to deal with if Andy Reid gets fired.

Can we talk about the defense?  Andy hired an offensive coach (Juan Castillos) to be a defensive coordinator.  This was the first question mark from the fans and media.  Once Andy fired Castillos, the defense did not get better, but it is not all on Castillos or Reid.

There were games I watched where I saw the multi-million-dollar cornerback, Namdi Asomugha, just quit on making tackles.  It has gotten so bad that he is now quitting on coverage allowing opposing receivers to run wide open.  Ridiculous!

Summary
The Eagles front office has a lot of decision to make, because the playoffs are over with this year.  If and when Andy Reid gets fired, owner Jeffrey Lurie will look to a high profile coach. The number one rumored coach spreading like wildfires is ESPN commentator, John Gruden.  If Gruden comes to Philly, things will get straightened out real quick.

Get ready for a roller coaster ride Philly fans.
