Tony Romo vs. Denver Broncos: Oh No…Not Again?

If you watched the closing minutes of the Denver Broncos vs. Dallas Cowboys game on Sunday

October 6, 2013, you were probably surprised like many. The Cowboys were down 28 to 20 at the half. Then the Broncos received the ball first in the second half. What did they do…they drove the ball right down the field and took a 35 to 20 lead over the Cowboys.

As most of the viewing audience figured, there was no way the Cowboys would have a chance. Well, apparently they did. Romo turned up the heat with a deep 82-yard bomb to the rookie from Baylor, Terrance Williams. Romo then hit Dez Bryant for 2 yard TD in to finish the third quarter. When the fourth quarter opened, Romo tossed 10 yard TD pass to tight end Jason Whitten then followed up with a short 4 yard pass to wide receiver Cole Beasley.

Then it happened...
There was 2 minutes and 39 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter.  The game was tied 48 to 48. What a high scoring game, what a shootout. But the entire game I kept talking to the television and asking the Cowboys offensive coordinator to run DeMarco Murray. History and statistics show the Cowboys are undefeated when Murray touches the ball 20 times or more.

At this point of the game I figured the Cowboys would be smart and try to move the ball a little and run the clock out. You don’t want to give Peyton Manning any more offensive chances. What happened????

1st and 10 at their own 20-yard line
Cowboys pass and Romo gets sacked for a loss of 6 yards.

2nd and 16 at their own 14-yard line
Cowboys pass again. With more pressure on Romo, he looks for the tight end Gavin Escobar. Escobar seemed open, but in the heat of the moment the linebacker, Danny Trevathan, covered him and made the interception on Romo.

Looking at the replay, Escobar was open, but Trevathan played it perfectly. During the post game interview on the field, Trevathan stated the Cowboys had just run the same play recently so he just undercut the pass for the interception.

So what did Romo do wrong…well… he just did the same thing he normally does at the end of games sometimes. He gives the game away. As many times as Romo has folded I ask the same question?

When will the offensive coaches give Romo some coaching assistance?

No matter how much Romo gets paid or people think he has evolved, he is who he is, which is Romo. As a fan and opposing teams, you know Romo will give a game away. To Romo’s credit he played phenomenal in this game, but the coaches placed too much on Romo. As usual.

DeMarco Murray carried the ball 12 times for 43 yards. Romo was 25 of 36 for 506 yards and 5 TD’s but 1 INT. Again, the Cowboys are undefeated when Murray touches the ball 20 times or more, but the coaches have not figured that out yet. I guarantee that Romo would rather be 17 of 28 for 380 yards and 4 TDs.

During Football Night in America before the Texans played the 49ers, NBC football analyst Rodney Harrison stated, “Romo was looking not to make a mistake…” Almost like, Romo cannot believe he could have a perfect game.

Here is an example:
If you are a parent and your child is doing something wrong, you will do everything you can to place your child in the best situation to win. Smart parents do this. Some parents cheat for their children, but we are not talking about them.

If Jason Garret is the parent and Romo is the child, Garrett and company must palce Romo in the best situation to win. Romo is not Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. He never will be, but he gives Dallas an opportunity to win every single week, where the coaches as parents fail Romo when necessary.

Give DeMarco Murray the ball 20 times and reduce Romo’s passing to 30 attempts or less. I guarantee the Cowboys win more games, but oh no. Garrett believes Romo is someone else other than himself.

Haters who hate the Cowboys love to see Romo in this situation, but he is who he is and the coaches are who they are. The Washington Pro Football Team will beat the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football on October 13, 2013. Why, because the Boys will not be as hyped for the game like they were for Denver. Let’s not forget, the defense gave up over 500 yards with 414 to Peyton and 93 to Knowhon Moreno. Again!

Romo, keep doing what you’re doing. You just need some help from the coaches and the defense.
