The NFL Player’s Association and DNS

The professional association I chose that relates to my specific entertainment industry of the NFL is the NFL Player’s Association (NFLPA).  The NFLPA is the players union of the NFL and they represent players by protecting their rights.  One of the major programs from the NFLPA that influences the industry is the One Team One Community program.  This program gives NFL players an opportunity to deliver their time and money to charitable organizations.  Additional programs include the NFL Players Gala, Native Vision, and Training Camp for Life.

The NFLPA affects my industry because they offer very similar vision as Dollars N Sense of the NFL (DNS).  Both companies represent the interest of the players.  The similarities include enhancing the image of the players on and off the field in addition to representing players concerning their wages, according to the About Us page at NFLPA.com.  The major difference from the NFLPA is that DNS has a greater interest for all of the NFL in regards to players, coaches, management, and league officials.

Junior Seau

One up and coming major program the NFLPA is working on is a 10-year collaboration with Harvard University to study player injuries and illnesses, according to CNN.com.  The mental issue of concussions is a large part of problems for former players like current television analyst Terry Bradshaw, according to the LA Times.com.  Additionally, severe concussions that caused the death of Junior Seau in 2012, according USA Today.  These highly probable debilitating situations that NFL players involve themselves with every Sunday of the NFL season even have the President of the United States weighing in.  According to the NFL.com, President Barrack Obama stated, “…if I had a son, I'd have to think long and hard before I let him play football".

Either way DNS and the NFLPA have one common goal in mind, which is to make sure the players are protected and have a future for themselves and their families.
