Super Bowl XLVII (47) - Divisional Predictions

CBS 4:30 pm EST

This could very well be the last football game for the Baltimore Ravens 17 year All Pro middle linebacker Ray Lewis.  If it is, it has been a great ride Ray.  For some reason, I think it may be the end.  The only reason is because Peyton Manning is on the other side and Peyton has a whole lot of healthy friends with him.

Health is one of the biggest additions for teams to maintain playoff presence.  Great coaching and talent are great as well, but most head coaches would love for their players to be healthy at this time of year.

Executive Vice President of Football Operations and 2-time Super Bowl champion, John Elway and Head Coach, John Fox have the Broncos on track.  The Broncos are going north while the injury riddled defense of the Ravens is heading south.  Manning will look to take advantage of the Ravens defense and try to bring a 3rd ring to Denver.

Broncos win 41-17.

These 2 teams met the first week of the season and the 49ers won it 30-22.  I believe this time will be different.

Aaron Rogers and the Green Bay Packers offense are ready to fire on all cylinders.  Rogers has his collection of receiving weapons with Jody Nelson, Greg Jennings, Jermichael Finley and the multi talented Randall Cobb.  Please don’t forget about the veteran Donald Driver who is healthy and on the bench just licking his chops waiting to get his opportunity for another Super Bowl run.

On the other side of the ball is the home team San Francisco 49ers that had the week off and are well rested.  The jury is still out on the 49ers QB in Colin Kaepernick.  The guy is a true talent and the ceiling is high for his future, but there are still question marks to me with the unproven playoff experience.

A Dom Capers coached defense, that won the Super Bowl just 2 years ago, has the major tools to confuse Kaepernick.  “Wildman” Clay Mathews and the “Chameleon” Charles Woodson are ready to cause havoc against Kaepernick in how he reads the defense. I call Mathews wild because of his hair.  I tapped Woodson as the Chameleon because he can disguise himself so well in blitz and coverage schemes.

Will the Packers Aaron Rogers be able to shred a stingy and hard hitting 49ers defense?

Will the 49ers Colin Kaepernick be able to read the confusing defense?

All of these questions and more will be answered on game day.  This game will be close.

Packers win 27–23.

This game is a head scratcher for me.  For some reason I cannot trust the Atlanta Falcons in the post season even though this team is 13-3 during the regular season. On the other hand the Falcons have two wide receivers in Roddy White and Julio Jones who can cause matchup problems for any defense.

The flipside of the Falcons is of course the Seattle Seahawks.  The Seahawks are marching to their own drum as “one band, one sound” a line used from the movie Drumline.  Head Coach Pete Carroll and the Seahawks do not care who believes in this team as long as they do.

The Seahawks carry a defensive attitude that is big, athletic, in your face, hard hitting and not backing down from anyone.  If the Falcons want to win at home, they will need their receivers to dominate, because I do not think RB Michael Turner and Jacques Rogers of the Falcons will have a great running day.

I believe the Falcons lack a strong defense to carry them forward in the post season.

Seahawks win 30-24.

This one is a no brainer for me.  New England, New England, New England!

The Texans are very good, but too inconsistent down the stretch and Tom Brady will be consistent at home in the post season.  Yes, the Patriots have not won a Super Bowl in a long time, but they have won a lot of post season games.

When the two teams met in week 14, the Pats destroyed the Texans 42-14.  Bill Belichick is a master of the playoffs and I think he and Brady continues their winning ways.  Yes, the Pats defense in not great, but the Texans offense is not lighting up scoreboard either.

The Pats are crafty at taking advantage of a team’s weakness and this will be no different this weekend in Foxboro.  Enough said.

Patriots win 38-23.
